Where to find the rifle in Sons of the Forest

Where is the rifle location in Sons of the Forest?

Survival in Sons of The Forest is crucial. Almost everything in the world is against you, which is why weapons play a large role. If you have the Revolver in the game, defending yourself might be easier.

Now, you can get a rifle that can make you a threat even to the scariest of cannibals. If you want to have a higher chance of making it out alive, you should read this guide to find where the rifle is in Sons of the Forest.

Sons of the Forest: Where to find the rifle

With each update of the game, the rifles seem to move around. So if you were having trouble finding it and using information from the last patch, you may be looking in the wrong spot. The good news is that I have found where it appears post-update. The issue is while the location is easy to pinpoint, getting the rifle won’t be a walk in the park.

Locating the rifle’s new spot

The new spot of where the rifle is on the southeastern part of the map. If you go beyond the snowy mountain and walk on the shore of the lake, you can easily find it. If not, I highlighted the location of the rifle below for you as a reference. Finding the entrance may be hard, so I suggest sticking on the stone wall till you find wooden planks covering a thin entrance.

Getting the rifle

As mentioned, getting the rifle to use isn’t an easy task. So before you dive into the cave, I strongly suggest you prepare beforehand. You’ll need a weapon like a pistol, a light source, and a rebreather. The light source you use is important which is why I recommend using the Pistol Flashlight. It can make your aim better.

When you enter the cave, follow the path along till you see a stone that has yellow markings on it. Once there, head right. In this area, there will be enemies roaming around. You can fight them, but from my experience, it’s better if you can sneak past them. Wasting ammo isn’t smart here. In the new area you’re in, there should be a tunnel on the left side. There will be wooden planks near it. Follow this path till you drop into another cavern.

This spot has enemies that are hard to deal with, even with the pistol. My advice here is to hug the right side of the wall from where you come from. This way the enemies won’t attack you. Plus, it’s elevated slightly, so getting to the next part should be easier. However, if they do start to follow, start running towards the end of the path you’re on. This will lead you to another route.

Remember the rebreather I mentioned earlier? This is where it comes into play. The other side of this path will need you to go for a swim. This part is short and easier, just follow the path till you reach the surface.

When you come up on the other side, you should see a body with some gear like grenades to loot. Take them and follow the route along. Near the entrance of the next area, you might have to deal with some enemies. You can use the grenade, but I suggest you use your gun since grenades are rarer.

After getting past those enemies, the next room will have the rifle in it. There will also be smaller enemies to deal with. Get rid of them first. When they’re all gone, follow the path till it takes you upwards. You’ll see a body dangling with the rifle held in their hands. Interact with the body to take it.

With the rifle in hand, I wouldn’t recommend equipping it right away since enemies are still around. On top of that, it’s a two-handed weapon that can make close-quarter combat harder. Additionally, your flashlight goes away making it hard to navigate. However, before you choose to leave make sure you look around the area for ammo. This is something that I missed out on.

The pistol is a dynamic weapon and can be upgraded in various ways.
