Half Of Warhammer Online’s US Servers To Close

Mythic has announced that two of the current four US servers and one EU server for Warhammer Online will be retired in March.
The news posting states that all players on the “Iron Rock” and “Volkmar” servers will be offered a free transfer to “Gorfang” as of 9 February. From that date onwards, Iron Rock and Volkmar will be marked as ‘Legacy’ servers to prevent anybody creating new characters on them. Three weeks later (which would take us to 2 March,) the servers will be retired.
Mythic state that it will be possible for players to move to a different server than Gorfang, but they will be charged for this.
In addition, the EU server “Carroburg” will be following the same procedure as above (becoming ‘Legacy’ on 9 February, closing three weeks later.) Players on Carroburg have the option of a free transfer to “Drakenwald.”
It’s clear from this move that Warhammer Online is struggling to populate its current quota of servers, so in that respect it makes sense to try to consolidate the player base that remains. Overall, of course, this is not a great sign for the game.
