Literary-infused adventure title Kentucky Route Zero reaches Act Three of Five, as the third part is now available. Tim bought me Kentucky Route Zero, and I’m glad he did because Acts One and Two were quite spectacular. A strange, intoxicating mixture of magical realism, American art and a sort of aching sadness for lost periods in time.
That all sounds quite highbrow, doesn’t it? And it should, because Kentucky Route Zero is written by people who’ve actually read a book or two and are interested in sharing and exploring that knowledge and those ideas through the medium of videogames. This is a good thing.
According to splendid developers Cardboard Computer:
Without getting into any spoilery detail, [Kentucky Route Zero] Act III is *significantly* more involved than the first two acts. We knew this coming into it, based on our narrative outline of the game. There are also components of it that grew in scale beyond our expectation, but we feel they’re worth the time and effort.
I’m looking forward to finding out what that’s all about, and then reading other people’s thoughts on the Act in order to better understand the bits that aren’t references to the late Gabriel Garcia Marquez. If you own all of Kentucky Route Zero on Steam, it should update itself automatically with Act Three.
