After polling the community, Jagex decided to launch the old version of Runescape taking players back in time to pre-2007 when the game significantly changed.

Jagex have been trying to ascertaon what level of support there is from the community before piling resources into launching new server for the old version.

“This isn’t the first time that we’ve left such a big decision up to our community,” said Mark Gerhard, Jagex CEO, “In 2011 I ran a very similar poll which allowed our players to decide whether to bring back Free Trade and the Wilderness which had, at the time, been removed from the game.  We’re passionate about developing engaging and innovative content for our players and strive to delight and entertain the community.  This year is no different in our ambition to continue to build a game for yet another decade. Our players’ dedication, passion, feedback and enthusiasm all provide the compass, energy and satisfaction that powers Jagex.”

So far over 250,000 votes have been cast to bring back the new servers and today they will launch and the more votes that a cast between now and 1 March will determine how much manpower Jagex will pump into the old servers.

For players who had old characters, sadly they will not be revived and players will have to start afresh. Still, good for those how preferred the older game.
