Shotguns: they are the best weapons in games. A good shotgun with the right sound, the right force, and the right reload time makes me jump up and down like a cheerleader on a Red Bull diet. Hooray, then, because the latest Payday 2 update shows our spreadshot friends some love.

Payday 2: Gage Shotgun Pack is out now, bringing with it a whole lot of scatterguns. Your £3.99 will net you access to the M1014 semi-auto shotgun, the 12-gauge pump-action Raven, and the riot-ending rapid-fire Street Sweeper 12.

Of course, that’s not it. There are also four different ammo types for these guns – 000 buckshot, tungsten flechettes, AP slugs, and HE rounds – for different situations. There are four new melee weapons in the form of a survival tomahawk, a utility machete, a telescopic baton, and a shovel. There are four new simian-themed masks to go ape over, four new materials, four new patterns, and a dozen new achievements.

But really, it’s all about the shotguns. Good to see Payday 2 offering them some love.
