Notch: EA are a bunch of cynical bastards

Minecraft creator Markus ‘Notch’ Persson has taken issue with a recently release EA Indie Bundle.
The bundle, now available on Steam, is made up of titles developed by indie studios that have been published by EA. Included in the package are DeathSpank, DeathSpank: Thongs of Virtue, Gatling Gears, Warp, Shank and Shank 2.
Notch has taken to Twitter to voice his distaste with EA’s use of the ‘indie’ label.
“EA releases an ‘indie bundle’? That’s not how that works, EA. Stop attempting to ruin everything, you bunch of cynical bastards,” Notch tweeted before adding that “Indies are saving gaming. EA is methodically destroying it.”
The issue here is what ‘indie’ now means in a videogame landscape that has used the term to describe games from grassroots developers, often those working alone or in groups of two or three.
Individuals such as Notch claim that EA are simply picking up on the word as a marketing buzz-phrase – in the same way that Paramount Vantage and Fox Searchlight Pictures do in the film industry.
Is that a problem?
