Disney Interactive’s Playdom laying off ‘several hundred people’

Disney Interactive has revealed that they are laying off several people in their social games division, particularly Playdom.

Disney Interactive also handles games for Disney.com, Club Penguin, and mobile games like Where’s My Water?

If you have played Marvel: Avengers Alliance on Facebook, that’s a Playdom game. Playdom has also made the two Mobsters games, as well as various Disney themed games on social network.

Playdom is one of the bigger social gaming companies still around, but considering the company, and that social gaming as a whole has seen more contractions than growth in recent years, this comes as no surprise. As Variety reports, after years of unprofitable quarters, they hope this will help push them into the black.
