Blizzard’s classic development teams have been busy recently following the release of the Diablo patch this week and there’re more to come. Next week Blizzard will be releasing a new patch for Warcraft 3, the first one since 2011.
The announcement came from Blizzard’s Robert Bridenbecker aimed at the Chinese Warcraft 3 community but he said the patch will release for everyone on 15 March taking the game to version 1.27.
“Thank you very much for your support over the past decade, playing Warcraft III. Over the past few months, you may have noticed we have introduced a new battle platform. It’s introduced features like matchmaking, the ability to communicate with your friends at a level that is unparalleled to anything we have done with Warcraft III in the market before. And on top of that, we’re proud to announce that on March 15, the next patch for Warcraft III will be available in the market, simultaneously with the rest of the globe.”
He closes out the video by adding, “this is only our first stop and we look forward to having you along for the journey”. A similar sentiment was expressed when the Diablo 2 patch was released this week.
Why all the sudden attention to the classic games? Perhaps Blizzard are starting to test the market to see how excited their fans are over the older games ahead of any future announcements.
