Sony Has Sold Their Tokyo Building To Mazda Owner

It only took a week since word initially got out. Sony has finalized plans to sell their famed Gotenyama building for $ 156 million, or 16.1 billion yen to the owner of Mazda.

The buyer is Sumitomo Realty and Development, the real estate arm of a company even older than Nintendo (Sumitomo was founded in 1655). Much like Sony, Sumitomo has its arms dipped in several businesses, including Mazda, chemicals, steel, machinery, and life insurance.

We have little to add to our initial report here. We hope this sale helps stem losses at Sony, as they outline a plan for recovery.
