It looks like the fish A.I. has paid off. Activision announced today that they have shipped more than $1 billion worth of Call of Duty: Ghosts copies to retailers. It remains to be seen if Infinity Ward’s Ghosts, the tenth main game in the extremely popular Call of Duty series, will overtake Grand Theft Auto V as the biggest entertainment launch of all time. Grand Theft Auto V sold $800 million on its first day out, but Bobby Kotick, CEO of Activision Blizzard, says that it’s too early to determine the sell-through for Ghosts.
“It’s launching at a time when the franchise has never been more popular.”
It’s been a good year for Call of Duty – though that could admittedly be said about any other year in recent memory. Activision recently boasted some impressive lifetime stats for the series, multiple Call of Duty-related terms have been globally trending on Twitter 20 times in the last 24 hours, and Ghosts has hit the #1 spot on Xbox Live as the most played game on the service.
