Former Panama dictator Noriega suing over Black Ops 2 (for money, not libel)

Considering how realistic and cutting edge video game narratives have been moving towards, it was only a matter of time before something like this was going to happen.

Manuel Noriega, former dictator of Panama and now incarcerated in his home country, is suing Activision for their use of his likeness in Call of Duty: Black Ops 2. People who have played the game will remember that you played our certain real life events in the game, including being involved in events leading to his being installed as that country’s dictator, as well as the subsequent US invasion of Panama leading to his ouster.

I’m now convinced the suit is cynical, as Noriega isn’t suing for slander, libel, personal damages, or anything of the kind. No, Noriega just wants a cut of the take, because Activision did it without his permission.

In any case, as is pointed out by PCGamer, he may not have a case to stand on, considering he isn’t a US citizen.
