Necrobarista, the ghost coffee service game, has been delayed

Haunting news

Necrobarista, a game in which you serve coffee to the recently departed, has pushed back its release date. The game had originally been slated to launch on Aug. 8, 2019. Route 59 Games announced today that they would need a little more time to brew. The developers cited “unforeseen circumstances” as the cause for the delay. The pushed-back release is a bummer for sure. However, like the famed Shigeru Miyamoto of Nintendo once said: “A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad.”

Route 59 Games stated that they are using the delay to polish the game into the best possible state by the time it launches. The delay also gives them time to support additional languages at launch. Those include English, French, French (Canadian), Italian, German, Spanish, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), Japanese, Korean, Russian, Turkish, Arabic, Brazilian Portuguese, and Dutch. All in all, this should mean that with this delay Necrobarista will be able to make the best impression possible to as many players as possible.

Bewitching visuals

Necrobarista caught my attention with its gorgeous cel-shaded art style and interesting premise. You play as a barista at a cafe called The Terminal. Both the living and the recently departed serve as your clientele. It’s up to you to solve their unfinished business and help the dead pass on to the afterlife. The catch is you only have 24 hours to help each soul. The game is played as an interactive, “choose your own adventure”-style visual novel with first-person adventure game sequences.

The game also features one of the best-looking user interfaces I’ve seen this side of the Persona franchise. The menus are dynamic and flow together incredibly well — twisting, turning, popping, and exploding out with each click. It’s really a joy to see in motion.

While no new release date is in place, we should be seeing Necrobarista launch later this year Q3.
