Windows 10 Won’t Be Subscription Based, Free Upgrade Promo Explained

Microsoft’s Terry Myerson has explained the Windows 10 free upgrade program for Windows 7 to 8.1 users, as well as earlier comments that the OS would become a service.

Those comments came from Terry himself, but he did not actually mean to imply consumers would have to pay to use the same OS again every year, or anything similar to this. He was actually referring to the way the company would be handling Windows updates. Moving forward, instead of getting large and time consuming Service Packs, which some consumers have even had to pay for in the past, they would be getting a steady stream of smaller maintenance updates.

Regarding the update program, it is completely free, but there is a time limit. Windows 7, 8, and 8.1 users will have a full year to do the upgrade for free.

How are you feeling about Windows 10 right now? Would you make the jump for the free upgrade? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.
