Homefront marketeers fined for littering

An over-inflated marketing stunt for THQ’s Homefront featuring 10,000 red balloons has resulted in a $7,000 USD fine for the company responsible. The San Francisco Bay Regional Water Quality Control Board signed off on the settlement against ‘TrashTalkFCM’ on Monday, following a 30-day public comment period.
Each balloon had an attached note, urging anyone who found it to order the Homefront title from GameStop. This rather undermines TrashTalkFCM’s assertion to the Water Quality Control Board that it thought the balloons would rise high enough in the atmosphere to simply disintegrate, as if that were the case why bother attaching adverts to them?
The balloons did not rise into the skies and disappear, but instead landed in the San Francisco Bay causing potential danger to birds and aquatic life.
TrashTalkFCM reportedly assumed full responsibility for the incident and helped with the clean up operation. The company now has 30 days in which to pay the $7,000 USD.
