Retro City Rampage Goes Seriously Retro

Retro City Rampage is out now for modern PCs, Mac OS X, Nintendo Wii, Nintendo 3DS, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, 3, and Vita. That sounds like they’ve got all their bases covered. What other devices could they possibly release this game for? Android or iOS?

How about MS-DOS?

Yeah, you read that right. In a time when gamers are racing to upgrade their rigs every chance they get, developer Vblank Entertainment Inc. thought it would be a great idea to release an MS-DOS version of their game. Guess they really do want to live up to the “Retro” in the game’s name. We’re not saying it’s a bad idea, it’s just… different, and far more retro than we expected.

Vblank didn’t even settle for a digital release for the MS-DOS version, they’re actually putting out a limited run of physical copies. They’re releasing a boxed 3.5” floppy disk edition of Retro City Rampage next Wednesday, July 29th. “Can I run this game?” – though normally asked when a high-specs game comes out – is still a completely valid question in this case, because some of us haven’t had a floppy disk drive in a long while.

If the super-retro MS-DOS version isn’t your thing, Retro City Rampage DX is available now through Steam and GOG, but if you already own the original Retro City Rampage, the remaster should be in your library, free-of-charge.
