Minecraft Release Date on Oculus Rift and PC Requirements from OC2

After seeing various updates throughout my work day regarding the Oculus Connect 2 (OC2) event, I couldn’t wait just to sit down and sift through all of the announcements stemming from it. While most of them are specifically geared towards the entertainment aspect, like the Netflix and Twitch specific announcements, it was good to see expected launch windows.

For Minecraft on the Oculus Rift and Gear VR, you can expect to see it come Spring 2016.

Now, those who are looking to find more specific details on the “full” Oculus Rift experience on your PC, you might be in for some minor upgrades. Here are the expected recommended system requirements for just that:

  • NVIDIA GTX 970 / AMD 290 equivalent or greater
  • Intel i5-4590 equivalent or greater
  • 8GB+ RAM

Other requirements include:

  • Windows 7 SP1 or newer
  • 2x USB 3.0 ports
  • HDMI 1.3 video output supporting a 297MHz clock via a direct output architecture

What’s good to see is that these aren’t exactly demanding or taxing by any means.  And, it could fulfill the goal of bringing virtual reality to a wider audience. Check out the official Oculus blog here.

Is your PC ready for the Oculus Rift experience? Will you or are you already on the VR bandwagon?
