In an out-of-left-field announcement, Interplay and Wizards of the Coast revivified a classic entry in the Baldur’s Gate franchise. Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance is getting a re-release this year and will be playable for the first time on PCs. The game originally released in 2001 for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox. Developed by Snowblind Studios, Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance was later ported to the GameBoy Advance and Gamecube.
The isometric RPG game follows three adventurers as they traverse through the Forgotten Realms, a campaign setting in Dungeons & Dragons. Players looking forward to visiting this 20-year-old adventure shouldn’t expect anything new. The version of Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance coming to PC later this year is a re-release. However, there will be some differences, although they’re all visual. This re-release of Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance will be playable in HD, giving players the option to run the title in 4K.
More Dungeons & Dragons games on the way
If the name Dark Alliance sounds familiar to any Dungeons & Dragons fans, there’s a good reason. Tuque Games is currently developing Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance, although it won’t be an isometric RPG like its predecessors. Instead, Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance will take a third-person action RPG approach to the franchise when it launches this summer.
Currently, there is no release date for the re-release of Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance. The game is also coming to consoles, namely the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, with support on next-gen consoles coming via backward compatibility, and Switch. On those platforms, the game will be releasing tomorrow, May 7.
PC users looking forward to playing this classic Baldur’s Gate title will have to wait a bit longer. While a release date for the game on consoles has been announced, a PC version of Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance will be releasing later this year alongside a mobile version of the game.
