Remember our previous article about the Dark Souls Board Game and how it reached its Kickstarter goal in three minutes? Well, the concept was a huge success and the campaign ended up with over $5 millions in funding. Yes, you read that right.
Steamforged Games reached its Kickstarter goal of $70,832 USD just three minutes into the campaign and since then, the game has smashed past its stretch goals. For example, on May 6, Dark Souls: The Board Game reached $2.9 million with ten days left to go.
The idea of creating a Dark Souls board game is great and although you shouldn’t judge a book from its cover, the “cover” looks pretty awesome. There are four playable classes taken straight from the original video game, and it looks like invasions are included too.
Two boss characters have been revealed so far in the form of the Dancer of the Boreal Valley and Smough & Ornstein.
To celebrate, the developer has unlocked the final stretch goals up to $5,760,200. The last additions will be added to backer’s pledges for free. Steamforged Games has also confirmed today that the core Dark Souls board game will come with a free “scenario-driven Campaign Mode,” where “level of success continues from one game to another.”
