Valve has officially released the beta version of SteamVR on for Apple’s MacOS. It was released alongside the High Sierra developer seed that was shown off during Apple’s 2017 Worldwide Developers Conference.

SteamVR on MacOS features the same 360-degree, room-scale tracking that is found in Windows and Linux versions. Valve partnered up with Epic (the studio behind the Unreal Engine) and Unity to create tools for those engines which would make VR development on Mac as easy as possible. There’s also support for WebVR thanks to Mozilla and its Firefox browser.

Here’s the system requirements for SteamVR on Mac:

  • SteamVR for macOS requires Metal graphics support in macOS 10.11.6 or higher and runs best with Metal 2 in the macOS High Sierra developer seed
  • An HTC Vive and appropriate connectors for Mac hardware
