The New Ataribox will be Priced Similarly to Nintendo Switch, Launching Spring 2018

In case you’ve been living under a rock, then you should know that Atari is releasing a new system soon. Okay, I’ll forgive you if you didn’t know, because even typing that sentence just now felt kinda weird. But it’s true—the Ataribox is on the way!

The system that came out of scenic nowhere will essentially be a PC with the design of a console. According to an email newsletter, the Ataribox will run Linux, which is good news to fans of the highly-customizable OS. As for the system’s innards, the only detail released by Atari so far is that it will sport a custom processor from AMD.

What’s probably the most interesting detail so far is that the Ataribox will cost somewhere in the realm of $250 and $300 (US). If it comes out at $250, that would put it directly next to the standard PS4 and Xbox One S. If it ends up hitting $300, then it will be the same price as the Nintendo Switch. Atari has stated that the system will launch sometime in late Spring 2018.

Now, all we need to see is some games actually running on the system!
