Armored Core 6 combat looks amazing, but this missed detail might take the cake

Seige warfare.

For all the Armored Core and FromSoftware fans out there, myself included, any new news of the newest Armored Core game is greedily gobbled up. The latest Fires of Rubicon gameplay trailer is the biggest reveal we have been given yet. Boy, is it something to behold! Ten years since the last release, FromSoftware is back at it again with the game that redefined shooters, mech games, and combat movement. Fires of Rubicon promises to be a polished, high octane, all guns blazing, Bulletstorm, judging by this latest teaser. However, one little element of gameplay may have slipped under your radar.

Incredible gameplay, but there’s more to Armored Core

Of course, watching through the fast-paced and explosion-drenched footage is exciting. The Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon gameplay is incredibly fast-paced, ranging from aerial assault down to ground-based hand-to-hand combat. Amid the chaos, there are even some pretty serious bullet-hell-type battles judging by a few of the bosses we are shown. Every second counts towards mech success in the brutal wastelands of the future.

However, taking a second look at the footage, once the excitement of a game promising to bring a beloved franchise back has settled, there are a few interesting details revealed. The one I am pertaining to focuses mainly on the mountain-sized enemy known as STRIDER. Hulking from the dusty clouds of the barren desert comes a monstrous enemy, dwarfing the player’s Armored Core mech.

Of course, the expected quick-firing, beefed-up enemies are all there, with bosses, tanks, and specialists. However, this STRIDER enemy lets us know that FromSoftware isn’t afraid to give us something serious to play with. Sometimes an enemy isn’t going to be a duck-and-cover type situation; it’s going to be a siege.

Personally, as a huge fan of Shadow of the Colossus, I am no stranger to enemies that require time, patience, and a lot of firepower to defeat. This glimpse of the STRIDER in Armored Core shows us that the game isn’t going to shy away from pitting us against something with some serious size. So, I think we can expect to see some pretty exciting fights in the Armored Core 6.
