In LEGO Fortnite, to access more advanced tools and resources, you’ll want to upgrade your Crafting Bench as soon as you can. Thankfully, it’s not too hard.
Finding Shells in LEGO Fortnite
To upgrade the Crafting Bench in LEGO Fortnite, you’ll need two things: Planks and Shells. You should have a surplus of Planks right now, so that won’t be too hard to source. The Shells, however, will provide more of a challenge.
The item description for the Shells states that they’re an item dropped from an entity called ‘Rollers.’ These Rollers are enemies that can be found loitering around, although they’re not obvious to spot on account of them being buried in the ground.
Before you go out to fight some Rollers, you will need to craft a sword and a shield — otherwise, you’ll be in for a lot of pain. Bring some food, too.
I found plenty of Rollers in the Grasslands, so go there if you aren’t already. These creatures will likely pop out of the ground as you explore, so head in random directions until one surprises you. Upon doing so, stand back! These enemies like to roll toward you, so you’ll need your shield up to negate the damage.
Once blocked, the Rollers will fall onto their shells and flail around. When they’re like this, they receive more damage, so hit them for all you’ve got! You may have to do this a couple of times to defeat them. Each Roller drops one Shell, so you’ll need to defeat three to upgrade your Crafting Bench.
A strange side note on Rollers: I found that they like to eat vines. I accidentally baited one into coming near me on account of some vines I didn’t want to pick up, so it may pay to leave some vines around to attract a Roller if you’re having a hard time locating one.

Upgrading the Crafting Bench in LEGO Fortnite
Once you have eight Planks and three Shells, you can head back to your Crafting Bench and click on the ‘Bench Upgrade’ tab. Click on ‘Upgrade,’ and your character will get to work improving the station. With an upgraded Uncommon Crafting Bench, you’ll have access to the next tier of items and buildings.
With uncommon tools, you’ll be able to harvest more resources, allowing you to build more structures and unlock more stations. You’ll preferably want to upgrade your station as soon as you get the chance.
