How to make a livestock farm in LEGO Fortnite

Apparently, all animals are escape artists.

LEGO Fortnite is teeming with livestock. You can hardly walk around the Grasslands without bumping into a group of chickens or cows. With the existence of animals comes the classic question: can I make an animal farm?

The problem with livestock farms in LEGO Fortnite

I am going to come right out of the gate and say that right now, livestock farms are not functional. At least if you’re planning on going on an expedition or leaving the game.

Unlike other games, the wild animals respawn in when you rejoin the game and despawn when you get too far away. This turns your otherwise bustling farm into a wasteland. So basically, you’re up Farm Lane without a tractor.

Despite the trailer for Lego Fortnite blatantly flaunting the idea of a livestock farm, we’ve all been lied to. You can kiss your dreams goodbye for now. All I wanted was a spider farm. Is that too much to ask?

There is currently no way to “keep” or tame animals to prevent them from despawning, no matter how much you feed them. You can temporarily lock them away behind fences and gates; you can admire them from over the fence, but turn your back, and BAM, you’re animalless with a stupid empty farm.

Luring animals into a pen in LEGO Fortnite

Even though you may not be able to make a proper livestock farm in LEGO Fortnite, you still may want to gather the local animals into one place for easier short-term animal produce harvesting. To do that, you’ll need a pen and enough vines to lure them.

You will want to preemptively build the pen with a small opening. You can use anything for this, although I recommend doubling up if you’re using fences, as sheep and cows can run over the short ones. You needn’t make it big.

Then, gather a whole bunch of vines. At least one stack should be able to lure you in some animals, depending on how far away they are. Luring animals is a little finicky, but it is a rather simple process.

When you’ve spotted the animals you want, drop some vines down. Go into your inventory, select the vines, and click “drop.” Drop only one at a time, placing them too close together will group them. As you can only place one vine at a time, you can only attract one animal at a time, annoyingly. You’ll have to make this trip a few times to build any kind of reputable livestock farm in Lego Fortnite.

When you’ve lured the animal into the pen, quickly close it up whilst they’re distracted with food. You can try to lure all the other animals into the same pen, but you will risk escapees. What I’d do is form a series of connected mini pens and then break down the barriers keeping the animals separate when they’re all populated.

Now that you’ve formed your very temporary farm, you may be thinking of the next step: breeding them.
