Pro Evo Finally Overtakes FIFA, Figures Suggest

Konami’s Pro Evolution Soccer series has now sold 69 million copies worldwide and, according to online figures, may have overtaken its long-term rival FIFA Football.
The Japanese publisher revealed the news during the announcement of its latest financial results, in which it confirmed it has slowed down its losses of recent times, stating that its soccer game was one of its key sales drivers.
The report said Pro Evolution Soccer 2011 “further expands the scope of game playing in the latest title of the popular series that boasts total global sales that exceed 68.8 million units”.
Konami also reported that Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker “has been well received by long-term fans of the series”.
The first Pro Evolution Soccer game was released in 2001 so it has taken the series just 10 years to reach its 69m figure.
According to Wikipedia, the FIFA Football series has sold more than 65 million up until 2010.
How accurate these figures are is anyone’s guess, but it certainly makes for some interesting reading.
