Like a moaning undead face at a window, a client for DayZ has suddenly popped up in the Steam database. Possibly accompanied by a scare chord.
The entry – for DayZ Early Access, specifically – was spotted by The Escapist, who note that the package contains references to both DayZ and DayZ Server. It looks to me like they’re both in separate packages, so whether or not the server stuff will be available to the public is a bit unclear; it’d be nice if so, but I wouldn’t necessarily be surprised if that was just for hosts. Maybe I’ve missed something.
Joystiq then managed to catch up with dev lead Dean Hall, who stated that “progress has been very good”, and “As I stated on my twitter when I announced my break from social media/updates, we are on the final lap.”
Oh, and he also said this: “So, to confirm, there is no release date announcement and we’re 100 percent focused on getting the alpha out the door.”
Doesn’t sound like it’s too far off, though. Admittedly, Hall has been saying that it’s not too far off for quite some time now, but the fact that it’s appeared as an Early Access title in the Steam database seems to hint that things are beginning to pick up steam (ho ho ho) rather quickly.
