2009 Online Gaming Statistics Released

Online MBA has released a number of statistics about online gaming including MMO subscriptions, as well as Xbox LIVE and PlayStation Network numbers.

The results, which came from research on US gamers last year, show that the platform gamers spend the most time playing per week on average is the Xbox 360 at 7.3 hours per week, followed by the PC with 6.6 hours, then the PS3 with 5.8 hours.

The most popular game on the Xbox last year was Halo 3 and World of Warcraft was the most-played game on the PC.

As far as MMO genres go, over 94% of subscription MMOs were fantasy with a meager 3.7% sci-fi or superhero.

The most pirated game of last year was Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 with 4.1 million downloads on the PC, with The Sims 3 in second place at 3.2 million.
