Following the amazing success of Tim Schafer and Double Fine’s Kickstarter appeal yesterday (the total is now almost at $1.4 million USD), other companies are pondering taking a similar approach. Obsidian’s Chris Avellone tested the waters on twitter, and there’s now a thread on his blog asking the simple question: “If Obsidian used Kickstarter to fund a project, what would you want to see?”
At present that page happens to be down (which, if anything, is quite a good sign of interest from the general public), but you can still ‘tweet’ your ideas to Avellone’s account.
[Update]: The blog page is back up again.
If there’s a company I’d love to see this kind of project succeed for, it’s Obsidian. The developer is responsible for Knights of the Old Republic 2, Fallout: New Vegas and Alpha Protocol, while members of the team were directly involved at Black Isle (Planescape: Torment) and Troika (Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines). In short, there’s a whole lot of RPG pedigree there.
When their forums recover from the initial shock, why not head over there and leave a suggestion.
