AMD’s 3D packaging tech has been on the minds of many PC hardware enthusiasts since the company first started teasing it. Now, thanks to a new leak reported by VideoCardz, we’ve got a possible release date for the first consumer CPU to feature V-Cache. The AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D will allegedly release on April 20 and cost $449 USD. The specs that have been revealed due to this leak are certainly impressive, particularly when it comes to 3D V-Cache. But, it’s worth remembering that none of this is confirmed officially yet.
The most impressive aspect of the CPU is certainly how much cache it has. What this means is that it should be excellent for high-refresh gaming, as demoed by AMD last year at the technology reveal showcase. The benefits that 3D V-Cache could have for gaming do sound impressive, and the general specs for the CPU aren’t too shabby either. The Ryzen 7 5800X3D will have a total of eight Zen 3 cores that can clock up to 4.5 GHz. It’ll also have 32MB of 2D cache and 64MB of 3D V-Cache. Adding together the 2D cache and the 3D V-Cache, there’s 96MB to work with, though we’re not sure where the other 4MB preside, since the full specs haven’t been officially shared yet.
The 5800X3D will also have a TDP of 105W, the same as the standard 5800X. At 4.5 GHz, the turbo clock speed is 200 MHz lower than the regular 5800X, but the additional cache should offset that. Because of the 3D stacked design, the V-Cache sits on top of the rest of the processor, which means the heat has to pass through it to a certain extent. This is perhaps why there’s a lower overall frequency. It also suggests the 5800X3D may be particularly sensitive to higher temperatures, so users will want to consider using a good cooling solution, whether it be liquid or air cooling. This should be particularly true for those keen on overclocking.
The details of AMD’s new CPU lineup
VideoCardz also has information regarding the more affordably priced Ryzen 7 5700X. The report says that this CPU will have a price tag of $299 USD. It has very similar specs to the Ryzen 7 5800X, except it has a lower base clock of 3.4 GHz and a boost clock of 4.6 GHz. It’ll also have a TDP of 65W, which is in line with AMD’s slightly less powerful CPUs.
That isn’t all the information that’s out there either. In fact, there are details on five other Ryzen CPUs. These include seemingly mid-range offerings like the Ryzen 5 5500 and 5600, as well as the Ryzen 5 4500 and 4500G. There’s also the Ryzen 3 4100, with a price tag of just $99 USD.

These lower-end CPUs should be good for cheaper builds that don’t require anything fancy. It’s also great to see AMD make some cheaper processors once again, as the prices for some of these models are also in line with some of the Ryzen 3000 Series CPU equivalents that launched back in 2019. These cheaper options may not be the most exciting, but the trend does highlight that AMD has satisfied the higher-end market. This further indicates more progress with the chip shortage. And we might even see more Radeon GPUs in production as a result.
Keep an eye out this April
The April 20 date is one that everyone should be skeptical about, but it does line up with a few things. A while back, there was a rumor about a Radeon 6000 Series refresh that would feature faster GDDR6 memory. Back then, there weren’t any solid dates to look towards. But now, it seems possible that AMD could announce these graphics cards as well as the new processors at some kind of event in April. This is entirely speculative, but the pieces do fit together and suggest something could be happening soon.
Regardless, take this information with as much salt as you can. None of this has been officially confirmed and is still subject to change. Price points in particular are things that tend to fluctuate at the last minute. April isn’t too far away now though, so we’ll get some more solid information about AMD’s Ryzen 7 5800X3D, its entry level CPU lineup, and maybe more soon.
