After a blast in The Game Awards 2023, Larian Studios released the award-winning game Baldur’s Gate 3 on Xbox. However, the game surely had a bumpy start on this platform as a lot of players are losing their saved progress due to a bug. Here is everything you need to know about the Xbox Save Bug of Baldur’s Gate 3.

What is the Baldur’s Gate 3 Xbox Save Bug

The Xbox Save Bug of Baldur’s Gate 3 is an Xbox-exclusive problem that deletes or corrupts the saved progress of players playing on this platform. While it has deleted a few saved files for some, many players have reported that they lost all progress due to the bug. Both Larian and Xbox have assured the community that they are actively working on the issue. On December 11, Larian Studios rolled out a small update for Baldur’s Gate 3 with a fix, but unfortunately, that was not able to fix the bug.

It has been a very long time since the bug was reported by the community, but the developers are having trouble fixing the issue from their end. In a recent Tweet, the Director of Publishing of Larian Studios, Michael Douse mentioned that fixing the bug is “Not as simple as just patching the game itself.

How to fix the Baldur’s Gate 3 Xbox Save Bug

Both Larian and Xbox have stated the issue and have assured the players that they are working on fixing it soon. For now, there is nothing to do to fix the bug in Baldur’s Gate 3, except wait for the developers to roll out an update. Meanwhile, players who still have not been hit by the bug can take some steps to mitigate their risk:

  • Turn off the power properly: According to the guidelines shared by Microsoft, the company has advised the players to keep their Xbox console powered even when it is turned off. Moreover, turning off your console in the wrong way can also corrupt the saved files. To properly turn off your Xbox console, follow the following steps.
    • Hold down the Xbox button on your controller.
    • Select the “Turn off console” option.
  • Keep your Xbox up to date: To avoid losing your saved progress, make sure to keep your Xbox console always up to date. Even if you have auto-updates enabled, make sure to check for any manual updates by following these steps.
    • Press the Xbox button on your controller.
    • Click on Profile & system
    • Click on Settings
    • Click on System
    • Click on Update.
    • If you have any available updates, make sure to install the update.
  • Close the game properly after playing: Xbox has also advised players to close the game properly to avoid losing the progress of their game by following these steps.
    • After you are done playing the game, press the Xbox button and go to your Home.
    • In the Home Screen, select Baldur’s Gate 3.
    • Press the Menu button.
    • Click on Quit.
