Destiny 2 guide: The Dawning 2019 recipes, gifts, the Alpine Dash sparrow, and Eververse

Destiny 2's annual winter event is back to bring some holiday cheer. The Dawning, in Destiny 2's aptly named Season of Dawn, will have you baking goodies to give to various NPCs just like last year. There are even some new recipes for various characters (including Eris Morn, Saint-14, and Riven from the Last Wish raid). You can also earn and upgrade the Alpine Dash sparrow. But, there's significant trouble that's brewing, one which involves Eververse once again. We tackle all of these and more in our Dawning 2019 holiday event guide. The Dawning 2019 ingredients and recipes Gifts for Saint-14 and Riven Obtaining and upgrading the Alpine Dash sparrow Eververse problems Eva's Holiday Oven 2.0 Head to the Tower and speak to grandma Eva Levante. She's near Zavala this time around. You'll be given Eva's Holiday Oven 2.0 and a handful of ingredients to create the Gjallardoodles cookies. Hand these over to Zavala and you can start progressing through the event proper. You'll also be rewarded with the Cold Front submachine gun (via a Dawning gift package in your consumables tab). Later, if you want to farm for Cold Front god rolls, these can drop whenever you turn in gifts via various NPCs. The Dawning 2019's mechanics and most of the recipes are similar to last year's holiday event. The gist is that you'll want to collect ingredients via kills against different enemy races, elemental damage, or weapons that were used. The Essence of Dawning, meanwhile, can be obtained by completing different activities in Destiny 2: Season of Dawn such as public events, Vanguard strikes, Nightfall strikes, Crucible fights, and Gambit matches. Combine two ingredients plus 15 Essence of Dawning and it'll result in a holiday treat. Note: Discovering all Dawning 2019 recipes will masterwork Eva's Holiday Oven 2.0. Masterworking the oven lowers the cost of Essence of Dawning ingredients that are needed for baking. Needless to say, it's more important to discover all the recipes first before going on a baking spree for duplicate gifts. Gifts for the Riven and Saint-14 Destiny 2's new recipes for the Dawning 2019 event are fairly easy to make and hand over to the respective characters. You'll find them in various destinations such as the Tower (Ada-1 and Benedict), the Tribute Hall (Visage of Calus), or the Moon (Eris). What about Saint-14? Well, you'll have to wait a bit. "An Impossible Task," the lengthy questline that takes you through the Corridors of Time which, in the end, will let you revive Saint-14, is not yet done. There will be additional steps next week which would, hopefully, conclude the quest chain. Saint-14 should be available in the Tower by then. Update: You can now interact with Saint-14. He's in the Tower's hangar and he's got a few bounties as well. As for Riven, you'll be familiar with this if you've done the Last Wish raid. If you haven't yet or you'd want to do this solo, then you could bypass all the encounters by using the Wishing Wall. You'll find it just off to the side before entering Kalli's room: Spot the patches green grass and the glowing mushrooms. Then, hop and clamber around until you reach the Wishing Wall: Enter the following combination (click on the image for a larger view): For clarity's sake: Row 1 - bird left, fish jump, spear left, blank, snake eight Row 2 - fire left, blank, blank, snake down, bird fly Row 3 - fire left, blank, bird branch, snake down, bird fly Row 4 - bird left, fish jump, spear left, blank, snake eight You'll be teleported straight to the Riven encounter area. Just stand on one of the circular floor panels to drop down. There's a snowglobe next to Riven which allows you to turn in a Dawning treat (Thousand-Layer Cookie): While handing over various gifts, you could also grab the Alpine Dash sparrow. Find out how to obtain it here. There are also a few problems that you might encounter if you're running out of bright dust. That's right, Eververse, once again, seems to be causing woes during the Destiny 2's Dawning event. In late 2017, Destiny 2 was in such a sorry state that Eververse and cosmetic items became major points of contention. Although Destiny 2's Dawning event last year didn't cause too much of a concern, this year isn't spreading the holiday cheer as much. Once again, that's due to the current Eververse/bright dust economy. This year's event has several thematic cosmetic items to obtain such as armor sets, finishers, ghost shells, emotes, and more. However, they can only be obtained via bright dust or silver. The problem is that players only earn a measly amount of bright dust from various bounties. Likewise, the cost of some of these items can be quite high. Previously, Dawning items were obtainable using the same means (bright dust and silver). But, there were additional methods: Prismatic Facets which netted you a cosmetic item that you didn't have yet. Winterdrift Engrams which gave you Dawning-themed cosmetics for every level-up above the cap. You don't have the same luxuries this time around. The so-called Fond Memories engrams, obtained via season pass rank-ups, only give you drops from previous Destiny 2 seasons or expansions. Overall, it feels that the acquisition of Dawning-themed cosmetics is a lot tougher this year. That doesn't bode well for the Destiny 2's Season of Dawn and the proverbial season of giving.
