Destiny 2 Outbreak Refined quest guide: How to find and use all switches correctly

Was the time limit really necessary?!

Like The Whisper Exotic Quest, there’s more going on in Zero Hour than meets the eye. Let me show you everything you need to know in our Destiny 2 Outbreak Refined quest guide: How to find and use all switches correctly.

All correct orders and locations for switches in Destiny 2 Zero Hour

Once you’ve beaten the final encounter of Zero Hour for the first time, you’re given the Outbreak Refined quest. The first part of this questline that’s likely to cause problems is Step 2, which tasks you with toggling several switches.

You can only find these switches in the Zero Hour Exotic Quest and you must play on Legend difficulty. More cryptic switches will likely reveal themselves in the upcoming weeks; we’ll update this guide if necessary. Let’s start with the first Exotic task:

Outbreak Refined I

As previously mentioned, you must play on Legend difficulty to complete this task, which slashes your time limit to 20 minutes

Proceed through the mission as normal until you reach the hanger pictured above. Head to the vents I’ve labeled instead of going underneath the ship as usual. You’ll find an opening you can fall through.

Follow the vents until you reach a hole. Drop down, defeat the Fallen Captains, and stand on the walkway.

If you peer off the side of the walkway, you’ll spot a button on the wall (pictured above). Jump to it and activate the switch. You’ll see some red pipes to your left; if you jump to those, you’ll find another switch to activate on the wall.

Here’s the tricky part. Jump into the gap in the image above, and you’ll find another switch to pull. There’s also a massive, sprawling waterfall you must climb up.

When you reach the top of the waterfall, stand where I’ve marked and keep jumping up into the rafters. When you reach the room at the top, you’ll find one more switch to pull.

You probably noticed a timer that says “Catalyst Switch Primed” when you flipped the first switch. You must activate every switch within the time limit. The restriction is pretty strict, but you can start the sequence from the room above the waterfall. As you’re up here already, jumping down is much faster than climbing, and you can activate every switch with a few seconds to spare.

Are there any other Switches in the Zero Hour Exotic Mission?

I’ve found another pair of Switches, but they don’t seem related to Outbreak Refined I. If you return to the first switch, jump right instead of left, and you’ll find another in the corner. There’s also one final switch opposite the second I mentioned, and you can easily reach it by jumping.

These switches will likely be necessary in the future, and we’ll update this guide when they come into play.

The Zero Hour Exotic Mission has plenty of fun sections, but few are as memorable as TR3-VR. There’s a Triumph up for grabs if you escape the maze unscathed, and it’s much easier when you learn the layout.
