In any town that has a Purveyor of Curiosities, you can buy a Whispering Key. Talking to this vendor will allow you to spend Murmuring Obols on many types of items. This is sort of a gambling vendor, you don’t know what item you’re going to get besides its type.

If you scroll down their list of items, they’ll offer you 20 Obols for a Whispering Key. Buy one, and keep it in your inventory anytime you adventure. It will come in handy once you stumble across a chest that needs it.

With your Whispering Key in pocket, you can now use it at any Silent Chest! This is a type of chest you can find anywhere in Sanctuary, like usual chests. But instead, these are locked, and need a Whispering Key to open. If you have one in your inventory, it should open for you. They can hold items ranging from Common to Legendary, so always have at least one key on you. Silent Chests will spawn randomly, so there isn’t a set place you’ll find them.
