Moogle Tomestones of Mendacity Duties

The full list of duties awarding Irregular Tomestones of Mendacity is as follows:

  • The Praetorium: Level 50, awards seven Tomestones. Unlocked at the end of base A Realm Reborn.
  • The Tower at Paradigm’s Breach: Level 80, awards seven Tomestones. Third Alliance Raid of Shadowbringers.

  • The Copied Factory: Level 80, awards five Tomestones. First Alliance Raid of Shadowbringers.
  • Any of the Frontline PvP maps: Level 30, awards either three or five Tomestones. Unlocked when your character hits level 30.
  • Hullbreaker Isle: Level 50, awards four Tomestones. Unlocked by the quest ‘King of the Hull’ after completing base A Realm Reborn from Bloezoeng in Mor Dhona (22.2, 8.8).
  • The Tam-Tara Deepcroft (Hard): Level 50, awards four Tomestones. Unlocked upon completing base A Realm Reborn by speaking to Paiyo Reiyo in Ul’dah Steps of Nald (12.2, 8.1) to pick up ‘Corpse Groom’.
  • Castrum Meridianum: Level 50, awards four Tomestones. Unlocked near the end of base A Realm Reborn.

Three or fewer Tomestones

  • The Porta Decumana: Level 50, awards three Tomestones. unlocked after completing The Praetorium at the end of base A Realm Reborn.
  • Dzemael Darkhold: Level 44, awards three Tomestones. Unlocked by completing the quest ‘Fort of Fear’ or ‘Shadows Uncast’. The first is unlocked from Ophelie at the dungeon’s entrance on the map, while the second is unlocked at your respective Grand Company upon reaching Sergeant First Class rank.
  • Cutter’s Cry: Level 38, awards three Tomestones.
  • The Sunken Temple of Quarn: Level 35, awards three Tomestones.
  • Every single Alexander Raid: Level 60, awards two Tomestones. Available upon completing Heavensward. Starting quest is ‘Disarmed’, from Slowfix in Idyllshire (7.5, 6.5).
  • The Weapon Questline: Level 80; Cinder Drift, Castrum Marinum, and The Cloud Deck all reward two Tomestones. This questline starts in patch Shadowbringers with ‘Ruby Doomsday’, from the Resistance Officer in The Lochs (36.5, 31.9).

Which duties are the best to farm?

Keeping in mind you cannot unsync duties for Tomestones, which ones have the best times for tomestone values? The Porta Decumana, hands down. The Porta Decumana is easy and short, barely requiring any effort or paying attention. The three Tomestones it awards stack up quickly. In the amount of time it takes to complete a single Alliance Raid or Dungeon, you can get at least two runs of Porta Decumana in if the queue times are in your favor.

Frontlines has second place, as it’s pretty good value for matches that take around 15 – 20 minutes on average, if it awards five. If it awards three, then Porta Decumana is still a lot better. Alexander: The Burden of the Father or similar quicker instances of the raid tier can also work as a quick way to farm the tomes. Anything else just isn’t as efficient of a farming method.

What items are best to aim for?

Here they are listed in order of most worth it to least worth it:

Moogle Treasure Trove of Mendacity: The mostly worth it items

  • Porxie and Qirin Earrings. 100 Tomestones for Porxie, and 30 for Qirin. These are unique to this event and may not reappear in the future.
  • Modern Aesthetics – Gyr Abanian Plait. 50 Tomestones. One of the most popular hairstyles in the entire game. It only drops from silver haloed sacks in Heaven-on-high and will cost you at least a million gil on the Marketboard to buy. Doubles as a great way to make gil if you hold onto it until the Marketboard prices go back up.
  • Magitek Predator Identification Key. This mount only drops from the dungeon Ala Mhigo. It saves a lot of farming time to get here.
  • All other mounts. Ixion Clarion (50 Tomestones) is obtainable from 400 Faux Leaf, Khloe’s Gold Certificate of Commendation from Wondrous Tails, or 12 Ixion horns from doing the special FATE ‘A Horse Outside’. Megalotragus Horn (50 Tomestones) is 8,400 Skybuilder Scrips from the Firmament, which is a lot of scrips to farm. Laurel Gobbue and Elbst (30 Tomestones) are from Trusted rank in Sylph and Sahagin beast tribe quests respectively. The rest (30 Tomestones) are farmed from Trials, which are easy enough to do unsynced with a party for a couple hours until you get the mount.
  • A Long Fall Orchestrion Roll. One of the most popular Orchestrions in the game, and only obtainable through farming The Twinning. It costs anywhere from 70-100k on the Marketboard so buying it from this event saves a lot of gil and time.

Moogle Treasure Trove of Mendacity: The your mileage may vary items

  • The Bonewicca gear. 15 Tomestones each. Can save farming The Swallow’s Compass 50 times unsynced if you really need these gear pieces.
  • The Triple Triad Cards. 10 or seven Tomestones each. Cheap enough to justify buying if you don’t want to grind to get them, at least.
  • Ballroom Etiquette – Emphatic Elucidation. 30 Tomestones. Normally 1,800 Skybuilder Scrips from The Firmament. Not really an emote worth the Tomestones.
  • Piece of Mind or Flibbertigibblet Orchestrion Rolls. Seven tomestones each. Saves you grinding Sylph or Kobold reputation.
  • Black Hayate minion. Seven Tomestones. Decently cheap for a drop from Holminster’s Switch, but if you can’t get it it’s only around 30-40k on the Marketboard.
  • Wind-up Succubus minion. Seven Tomestones. Saves you 500 Allied Seals for cheap.
  • Ostensibly Special Timeworn Map. 30 Tomestones. This gives you two level 80 treasure maps guaranteed to summon a portal for more treasure. The portal rate is already perfectly fine, you don’t have to waste Tomestones on guaranteed portals.
  • The Riding Maps. 30 Tomestones each. These items increase your mount speed in the respective area listed on the map. They are also obtainable from Allied and Centurio seals, which are much easier to get.
  • MGP Platinum Card. 30 Tomestones. Gives you 50k Manderville Gold Saucer points. You get more from your weekly Fashion Report, it’s not worth it.
  • The furniture items. 20 Tomestones each. Just gather the ingredients and craft them yourself.
  • Magicked Prism (Job Mastery). One Tomestone each. These are just to get Tomestones out of your inventory. Not worth anything.

So get to queuing for The Porta Decumana for those Porxie Earrings once the 24th hits. We’ve got approximately a month, but it doesn’t hurt to start early.
