Five games like Final Fantasy 16: 1. Final Fantasy 14

Headed by the same man who led the development of 16, 14 has much in common with 16 as another Final Fantasy game. FF14 allows you to be a single Mothercrystal’s chosen one and save multiple nations and even a separate dimension and the entire world from oblivion. True to the franchise, you’ll also see depictions of the Eikons from 16. It’s even getting a crossover with 16 soon!

2. Pokémon Legends: Arceus

Before Scarlet and Violet’s modern journey to the past or present, Pokémon Legends: Arceus blasted the franchise back to the past of Sinnoh and did away with the traditional formula in favor of something much more fantastical. Legends: Arceus leaves you as one person against the wilds of the world exploring and taming Pokémon to help you along the way, and you can even get attacked and knocked out as the human character. If you’re looking for a Pokémon-flavored grand fantasy adventure, this is the game in the franchise for it.

3. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

It would be remiss not to mention another Nintendo-flavored large-scale adventure game allowing one to travel the world and learn its history. If you’re in the mood for something a little more colorful and less gritty but equally magical and full of discoveries, give the world of Hyrule a try as you die to overworld enemies over and over again.

4. Bayonetta 3

If you favor the intensity of combat in Final Fantasy 16 but also its detailed world and lore, Bayonetta 3 and its previous entries may be to your liking. It’s got demons and angels, witches, and multiple dimensions in peril. What’s more adventurous than dimension hopping?

5. The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim

It’s hard to find a game on the scale of a grand adventure as much as Skyrim. It is perhaps the big adventure game of modern times, in all of its flaws and strengths. If you can handle a game with maybe four voice actors in total and want to fight dragons and absorb their power much like Eikons in FF16, you can’t get much bigger in scale than Skyrim. Plus, it’s available on practically everything.

The beauty of games like Final Fantasy 16 is there’s no shortage of them once you finish. May your journeys not be too frustrating.
