Some devastating news for gamers north of the border looking forward to this event.
The Game Expo Scotland was due to take place on 4-5 October but sadly it has now been cancelled. A statement from the organisers reads as follows:
To give you an insight, we have been planning this event for over a year. We have spent all our time and energy to get the event off the ground. Through some fantastic contacts and media partners there was great momentum on many parts of the expo, especially the esports zone and the Indie zone whereby we had 18 Indies already signed up to exhibit. Although this was great progress, the only publisher to commit was Deep Silver with Dead Island 2 & 2 other titles. This wouldn’t have been enough even including the other elements to justify the ticket, plus there were other financial issues with the EICC (original venue) that led meant we could not deliver the event we intended.
Many of you have been asking if we will try and do another event in the future. There is a very good chance, however the lesson learned here would that it would start off as a far smaller event and if the opportunity arose, grow the event gradually without the huge financial pressure we had to overcome.
As IncGamers was a supporter of this event, we are frustrated by the decision and the lack of commitment from publishers. We sincerely hope that the event will be reorganised for next year, hopefully sometime in the year that will attract more publishers. Scotland deserves its own event, it plays such an important part in UK game development.
If you had purchased a ticket then a full refund will be applied to the card the ticket was purchased on.
