The Rebels: Windward Arts and tips

Recommended Videos

You might be thinking that it’s going to be easy when you’re part of the Rebel team in the Windtrace event. Well, not quite. But, before we discuss the problems, let’s talk about the Windward Arts that will replace your regular abilities.

Windward Art functions and tips

  • Lay Bait or Transparency (left-click) – Lay Bait drops an item that copies your disguise. If the Hunter accidentally captures it, they’ll get their vision temporarily obscured. Transparency, meanwhile, dispels your current disguise and makes you invisible for a short duration. This is actually very risky. If the Hunter is looking in your general direction, it’s going to look very strange when an object magically disappears from their sight.
  • Disguise (“E”) – You’ll be able to switch to a disguise that’s dependent on the location (i.e., boxes, crates, scarecrows, and the like). You can move and jump around while disguised, but that’s going to give you away completely. The disguise is also removed if you glide or swim. At best, you’ll want to pop your disguise during the preparation phase and stay in the same spot. If the Hunter isn’t close by, you can move around with Transparency active. Look for another spot and pray that the Hunter doesn’t head toward you.
  • Starstep (“Q”) – You’ll receive a huge boost to your movement speed for 30 seconds. This will let you outrun the Hunter if you do get spotted, and it’ll likely be your only way to stay alive during the final seconds of the match.

Note: These abilities do have their own cooldowns.

Rebel team impressions

Being part of the Rebel team can be very annoying. There are three of you roaming around, all while trying to find the perfect hiding spot. Even then, you could meet people who’d rather throw the match or those who would panic and run away when the Hunter gets too close. Heck, I’ve even seen players who don’t bother using their disguises, as well as those who’d just stand next to the Hunter. Perhaps the worst part is that, if you get discovered prematurely, you’ll become a spectator. You’ll have no choice but to sit through the entire thing until it ends. It gets very boring. Lastly, most of the scoring system’s rewards are geared towards those who can outlast everyone else. So, if you’re spotted early, you’ll probably receive just a measly amount of coins.

Still, you might have a chance if you select characters like Mona or Hu Tao. They tend to have better mobility compared to other options, so you can outrun the Hunter when necessary. Finally, there’s a “secret chatbox” so you can communicate with your Rebel pals. Unfortunately, this is Genshin Impact we’re dealing with. Randoms will rarely chat and you can’t always rely on everyone being on the same page.

So, what happens if you’re the Hunter? Well, let’s talk about the Windward Arts and tips for the Hunter in the next part of our guide.
