Honkai: Star Rail has a great selection of free 4-star characters that all players will obtain while playing the game. The first of these free characters is March 7th, the bonafide mascot of the game. Despite being a free character, March 7th is still a strong unit, with the ability to dish out some strong shields. March 7th is one of your trusty companions from the Astral Express that you’ll journey with, giving you a reason to build March 7th and have her stick around. March 7th is an Ice Preservation character, making her most comparable to Gepard. Preservation units are defensive units that focus on keeping your team alive with shields as opposed to healing. March 7th also has a soft taunt when applying her shield, making it more likely that an enemy will attack an ally who is shielded by March 7th. This character can output some strong heals, but is rather Skill Point hungry, which can be a problem when pairing her with characters who need to use their Skill often (like Jing Yuan or Seele.) As a result, March 7th pairs best with DPS units that aren’t too reliant on using their Skill or do not need too many heals.
- Clara: Clara is by far March 7th’s best teammate, as Clara’s damage primarily comes from her counterattack mechanic that procs whenever she is hit by any attack. Not only is March 7th’s shielding adequate for Clara, but it also provides a soft taunt for her, making it more likely enemies will strike Clara and trigger her counterattack. If you are using Clara, it’s highly recommended to build March 7th with her.
- Arlan: Arlan is a Destruction DPS unit that deals more damage the less HP he has. March 7th providing a shield can help keep Arlan alive at low HP thresholds and increase his damage and also removes the need for a healer to keep your team alive.
- Yan Qing: Yan Qing is self-sufficient, lowering the odds that enemies will attack him and also providing himself with Crit Rate and Crit DMG buffs. Yan Qing and March 7th are both strong at proccing the Freeze ailment, which essentially gives you a free turn. This comp can be somewhat limiting with double Ice units.
