MW3 Warzone is live and offers a Battle Royale experience that’s familiar yet full of tweaks and changes. One area that’s seen the most significant changes is the Gulag. Whether you’re a grizzled veteran or an absolute beginner, let me answer the question: How does the Gulag work in MW3 Warzone?

What is the Gulag in MW3 Warzone

Just so we’re all on the same page, let me quickly explain the Gulag, as it’s a unique concept among Battle Royales. The Gulag is available in the Regular Battle Royale mode and offers players a second chance when they die.

The Gulag is a small, symmetrical arena where players fight 1v1. Whoever wins is sent back to Warzone, while the loser returns to the lobby. You can only enter the Gulag once per round. If you make it far enough into the game, the Gulag closes, locking it for all players.

How has the Gulag changed from MW2 to MW3

The 1v1 gameplay in the Gulag remains unchanged, but there are a few key differences. Gulag battles take place on a small map called Silo. The map has three variants, and they all offer a simple three-lane layout.

The biggest change to the Gulag is how Overtime works, as the old flag capture point has been replaced by an Ascender. The Ascender is a rope that appears in the middle of the Arena, and you can use it to escape and earn your freedom.

Gulag rounds rarely last long enough for the Ascender to come into play, but you can score a cheeky kill on players who rush to it.

If you win your fight in the Gulag, you have a few moments to loot the area before you redeploy. I recommend scrouging whatever you can off the ground, as you’ll be in a rough spot when you return to the map.
