How to beat Nightingale in Alan Wake 2

An undead monster.

The first real boss that comes your way in Alan Wake 2 is Nightingale, and we can teach you how to beat him. He has become a terrible monster, and he’s a lot stronger than most Taken you face.

I was struggling quite a bit facing off against Nightingale, even with my Pistol and Sawed-Off Shotgun. If you’re also having a hard time beating Nightingale, let’s go over how to kill him.

Alan Wake 2: How to defeat Nightingale

When fighting Nightingale, there are some important things to note. He hits hard, he has a ton of health, and requires lots of ammo to take down. Luckily, the area you fight him in isn’t closed off. You can actually run off and find red boxes containing items like ammo, batteries, and medical supplies.

I often found myself easily running out of batteries and ammo, but if I left the scene and went to another section of the forest, the game would eventually give me a supply box. Anytime you run out, don’t just start melee hitting Nightingale out of desperation, run and go look for more items.

Fighting Taken in Alan Wake 2 is all about shining your flashlight to stun them and reveal their weak spots called Source Points. Holding the scroll button on your mouse will Flashlight Boost Nightingale, and break him down. It took some time to reveal his glowing Source Point, but once you notice it, try to aim for that.

He’s using a massive tree trunk for a weapon. Even dodging at the right time can still stagger you. I believe this was because the force of his hits traveled forwards, so I found dodging to the side instead of backwards helped more.

He can also disappear and reappear at any given moment, so get ready to press ‘Space’ to dodge before he can grab you by the neck. If he does manage to grab you, you should be able to spam ‘F’ fast enough to negate most or any health damage.

As a last tip, before the fight, perhaps check your Mind Place to see if Saga can upgrade her weapons. Find manuscript fragments around Cauldron Lake to spend on upgrades for her guns.
