Ensure your party has full health and MP before you start the encounter. If you’re a little low on MP, you can cook Berry Jam to fix that.

The Chromatic Apparition Boss in Sea of Stars is a brutal opponent with multiple forms. You need to employ a different strategy for each to stay on top. Unlike Malkomud, this Boss can switch forms at will with the Shapeshift ability. Here’s what you’re up against:

Form One

The Chromatic Apparition’s opening form is weak to magic. Valere’s Moonerang, in particular, can easily kick out 90+ damage if you can keep it going. In this form, the Boss likes to summon Crystal Tulips for help. These do heavy single-target damage if you don’t break their cast bars, so prioritize them whenever possible.

Form Two

The Chromatic Apparition’s weakness swaps to Physical Attacks instead. Garl’s Boosted Attack works well here as it’s not imbued with magic. The big problem here is the Boss’s uninterruptable single-target attack. The ability is unnamed but hits hard enough to KO one member of your party in a single hit.

It’s critical that you keep at least two party members alive during this phase so you can heal on a loop if needed. Throw out non-boosted physical attacks whenever you can. If you don’t need the healing combo, Solstice Strike is another good damage dealer. Just be sure not to boost the Solstice Strike, as it will lose the damage bonus.

Form 3

When you have the Chromatic Apparition on the ropes, it reveals its final form. They have a nasty attack with a cast bar to break, but physical attacks are the way to go. If you deal enough damage, they won’t survive long enough to let the ability off. To knock multiple icons off the cast bar in one go, you can use a Boosted Solstice Strike. With the Boss defeated, you earn the Coin of Undead Accord and can continue the story. With most boss fights in Sea of Stars, slow and steady wins the race. Focus on your defenses and keep your health high. It might make the battle last longer, but eventually, you’ll come out on top.

This Boss is challenging and quite a step up in difficulty compared to anything else you’ve faced. If you get stuck, don’t put your nose up at the assist relics. Check out our guide to learn how they work and where to get them.
