Mantis Shrimp are weird as hell. They have big googly eyes and can punch so hard that they actually create combustion in the water around them. These tiny little shrimp are able to crack shells and dismember other crustaceans. The Mantis Shrimp in Dave the Diver isn’t so small but still packs a punch. The giant, angry foe is in an arena full of danger and has an arsenal of attacks; it’s not so easy to beat.
How to Beat the Mantis Shrimp in Dave the Diver
The arena that Dave the Diver finds himself in for this Mantis Shrimp battle is not the most convenient. There is a whole wall full of spikes, just ready to skewer you, and not a lot of space to hide. The only thing to grab onto when the blasts come is a small chain. Holding onto this and continually mashing the spacebar is the only way to avoid becoming impaled.

Go for the eyes
Just like the Giant Squid, the eyes are the weak point. Make sure you equip Dave the Diver with a good long-range weapon, such as the Sniper Rifle. Then you can keep a distance and put the damage in. Don’t rush your attacks on the mantis Shrimp. Get them in between the attacks, there is plenty of time, and it’ll save you from being caught off guard.
Nowhere is safe from the Mantis Shrimp
There aren’t any hiding places in this battle, similar to the Wolf Eel. You will have to either hold onto the chain when the gusts come from the fists or judge where the punches are coming from. The punches do telegraph, so judge when they’re coming and move Dave the Diver away from the mantis Shrimp. I found the ceiling was the best spot, or just behind the Mantis Shrimps’ right arm. Apparently, it can’t punch backward.
Watch for the Mantis Shrimp pattern
Like most bosses, the Mantis Shrimp will attack Dave the Diver in a pattern. Watch for a little while until you spot the pattern, and use the Mantis Shrimps pauses between attacks to attack with Dave the Diver.
