How to complete At Any Cost quest in Diablo 4

Uncover the hidden refuge

Whether you’re tackling side quests as they appear or hoarding them until the end game, stories off the main path are worth exploring in Diablo 4. Many flesh out the world and offer insight into the bleak lore of Sanctuary in ways you don’t see in the main story. Some side quests send you on wild goose chases across the map. The ‘To Walk a Dark Path’ questline is one of those, and many players struggle with the 2nd objective. With this in mind, let me show you how to complete the At Any Cost quest in Diablo 4.

To start the questline that ‘At Any Cost’ is a part of, travel to Zarbinzet in the Hawezar Region. Head north up the steps from the waypoint and speak to Father Dymus. After your conversation, you can take the ‘To Walk a Dark Path’ questline.

The ‘At Any Cost’ quest asks the player to locate a ‘Refuge marked by giant tusks.’ The issue is those tusks aren’t nearly as big or visible as they sound. In fact, they are so small it’s easy to ride straight past them on horseback. Locating the refuge took me a long time, and I only found it because I jumped off my horse to defeat a large mob nearby.

The images show where the strange refuge is and what these ‘giant’ tusks look like. Once you’ve reached the location, head inside. The refuge interior is much like one of the cellars dotted around the map. Defeat the enemies and inspect the highlighted objects. Your character will proclaim there’s nothing of use in the refuge but don’t leave just yet. You’ll hear a groan from a corpse a the back of the room. Speak with it to progress the quest. Light the candles as instructed, and you’ll trigger a short story sequence. The rest of the questline is straightforward and rewards you with a few caches of materials for your troubles.

Aside from finding the place, this mission shouldn’t cause you any problems, and there are no reports of the quest bugging out. If you’re stuck on the Poisoned Hearts quest, one notorious for issues, check out our guide.

Is it worth completing the ‘To Walk a Dark Path’ questline?

I strongly recommend seeing this questline through to its conclusion. Aside from finding the refuge, the quest is easy and relatively short. Without diving into spoilers, you’ll visit a location at the end of the mission that is integral to the story. If you’re even slightly interested in Diablo lore, you’ll love seeing where this quest concludes. If you don’t care about the story, it’s still worth completing for the Renown, which is valuable when you reach the endgame.
