How to defeat Yurgir in Baldur’s Gate 3

Defeating Yurgir.

Baldur’s Gate 3 has a lot of differences between different playthroughs of the game. From choices such as saving or destroying the Emerald Grove, and even deciding at one point between which companions can stay or leave the camp if you trigger that scene. Some of the biggest differences are things you won’t even know about until you talk to somebody else or see something entirely different to your playthrough on social media. It’s frankly extremely cool, and the fact that Baldur’s Gate 3 accommodates this much experimentation is impressive. This also extends to various fights too, as there are ways you can skip entire fights and get around encounters that would be pretty tricky to do regularly. One of these encounters is Yurgir, enemy of Raphael. Here’s our guide on how to defeat Yurgir in Baldur’s Gate 3.

To find Yurgir in Baldur’s Gate 3, you’re going to need to head to the location where the Gauntlet of Shar is, and on your trip looking for the different Umbral Gems, you’ll come across Yurgir in the location you can see in the map below.

Yurgir is actually a really high level enemy in Baldur’s Gate 3, and this means fighting him is going to be incredibly hard to do. But due to Baldur’s Gate 3’s expansive choice system, there are options to circumvent his fight entirely. The outcomes for this conversation range from being able to walk around his camp, and potentially grab the Umbral Gem while he’s not looking, to having him kill himself.

A guide through the conversation

Here’s a guide through the conversation choices with Yurgir in Baldur’s Gate 3:

  1. I had a Rogue option here, but do nothing will do the same, just select ‘Wait – you know Raphael?’
  2. Option 2 – I’ve had dealings with that devil. Maybe we can help each other
  3. Option 1 – Let’s share our experiences about Raphael. Perhaps we can help each other
  4. Quicksave here so we can reload and reroll the next Insight check.
  5. Option 1 – Show me this contract. Perhaps there’s something you missed.
  6. You need to pass the Insight check here, otherwise you can’t kill Yurgir during this conversation, and can only pass a Persuasion check to be given a chance to look around. If that’s all you need, to maybe try and break Yurgir’s contract in Baldur’s Gate 3, then go ahead and choose the Persuasion option and look around for a way to break Yurgir’s contract.
  7. Option 1 – Your contract is a song?
  8. Option 3 – The lyrics are a trick. You’ve always had an audience – your followers. Get rid of them.
  9. From here, select and pass the checks on the only options that aren’t Attack, which will result in Yurgir killing himself.

That’s how you can defeat Yurgir without a fight, but as mentioned, you can also choose to look around to try and break his contract with Raphael, which may benefit you in the future. Or you can simply look around and use stealth to steal the Umbral Gem and be on your way. The decision is up to you.
