How to find and use Samples in Helldivers 2

These upgrades are worth the grind.

Samples are one of several currencies in Helldivers 2 and are required if you wish to purchase Ship Modules. The issue is that Samples work slightly differently from other currencies like Warbonds. With this in mind, let me show you how to find and use Samples in Helldivers 2.

Samples differ from regular mission rewards as they must be acquired on the field. Unlike Warbonds and Requisition Points, you drop Samples when you die. You can still retrieve your lost Samples by returning to your body. Your corpse is visible on the map, so make sure you go to it when you respawn. I’ve lost plenty of Samples this way, so don’t make the same mistakes I have.

Sample types are tied to difficulty, so you’ll only find Green ones until you tackle harder missions.

How to find Samples in Helldivers 2

You can find Samples among regular ground loot in Helldivers 2, but you won’t get a decent haul if you just head straight to objectives. Keep a close eye on your Compass when you’re on a mission and head to any question marks that appear. These question marks highlight nearby points of interest and often contain Samples, but they don’t appear on your regular map.

These points of interest are typically small affairs, but you’ll occasionally find large structures, like Bunkers (pictured above). Unfortunately for solo Helldivers, this one requires two players to open.

Now you know how to collect Samples like a pro, let me explain where to spend them. Head to the Ship Management screens left of the Armory and scroll over to Ship Module. Many items in this section cost Samples, although you’ll notice the hefty price tag.

The cheapest upgrade costs 60 Samples, which unlocks the Donation Access License. The License is a superb upgrade, as it increases the amount of magazines your Strategem-specific weapons drop with. I’m enjoying the Eagle Stratagems as they have instant deployment. The Liquid-ventilated Cockpit Module decreases Eagle Strategem cooldowns by 50%, so I’m saving my Samples for that.

I recommend scrolling through the list and seeing if any modules buff your favorite instruments of death.
