What is the Forbidden West DualSense FPS bug?
You see, after the release of Horizon Forbidden West: Complete Edition reports have been coming about a bug that takes place when you have a wireless connection with a DualSense controller while attempting to run the Forbidden West, having dropped from what could be a steady 120 fps down to 20 fps. That’s a 6x drop! Even 4090 are unable to run the game properly and the devs have taken note of it.
Now, I’ve had my fair share of weird and random error and stability issues across my journey as a PC gamer. I’m almost certain my Intel Processor is faulty and causing issues unless I’m using XTU. Check this document here if you are having that issue, by the way.
However, I’ve never seen something like this DualSense bug. With that being said, there is a workaround that can be considered simple.
Horizon Forbidden West: How to fix PC Dualsense FPS bug
You see, players have reported that performance has gone back to normal when they disconnected their DualSense controllers. Now, that’s a solution going to the doctor for pain in the arm whenever you attempt to bend it and have the doctor say “Don’t bend it then!” and charge you a thousand dollars for the appointment. Well, thankfully, if you connect the DualSense controller via a wired connection – that is, USB – the problem should be completely solved.
Moreover, if you use an Xbox controller to play the game – it supports Xbox One and Xbox 360 controllers – or even the Steam Deck – in fact, any other controller other than the DualSense – then you will have no problem whatsoever. Other than the disoriented feeling of having Xbox button mapping in a Sony game, but anyway.
While the devs work on a solution for this bug, I suggest sticking to a wired connection. Not only to improve performance but also because you will also enable controller features that only work when wired. Is this a conspiracy to destroy wireless capabilities? Maybe not, but let’s just wait this out while Guerrilla figures things out.
