How to get and level up Dragon’s Breath Exotic Catalyst in Destiny 2

Burn baby burn!

The Dragon’s Breath Exotic Rocket Launcher is tied to the Season of the Wish Pass, just like the Ex Diris from the Season of the Witch. Like many Exotics, you can upgrade it with a Catalyst. With this in mind, let me show you How to get and level up the Dragon’s Breath Exotic Catalyst in Destiny 2.

The Dragon’s Breath Exotic Rocket Launcher is available to all players during the Season of the Wish, although you get it immediately if you buy the pass. If you don’t purchase the pass, you’ll still unlock the weapon when you reach level 35. The launcher is the same, but it’s worth mentioning the Dying Dream ornament for the Dragon’s Breath is only on the premium track.

Where is the Catalyst for the Dragon’s Breath in Destiny 2?

You can grab the Dragon’s Breath Catalyst questline from Banshee-44 in the Tower. Speak with him at the Gunsmith Counter, and you’ll receive “The Old Flame” quest. This quest has three parts, and you’ll likely make short work of the first as it has the following objectives:

  • Defeat 50 Scorched Targets
  • Defeat 5 Bosses

The Scorched Targets should be pretty easy as the Dragon’s Breath Rocket Launcher has the Composite Repellant Trait, which inflicts Scorch on any enemy it hits. To ensure you’ve always got plenty of Heavy Ammo, I recommend putting a couple of Heavy Ammo Finder Mods into your Helmet.

The 2nd part of the Old Flame Quest will take a while as you have to do the following:

  • Generate 200 Calibration Data
  • Defeat required amount of Targets

You’ll fill up the ‘Targets defeated’ bar fairly quickly, but Calibration Data takes a while to obtain. You get a single point for finishing a regular Vanguard Strike, but tougher content yields a higher amount. When you reach level 22 in the Season Pass, you’ll earn the Catalyst Quest Boost Omega, which quadruples progression. If you’re only comfortable with regular Strikes, this knocks the requirement down from 200 to a more manageable 50.

The final part of the quest is to return to Banshee-44 in the Tower, where you’ll receive your hard-earned Catalyst.

What does the Dragon’s Breath Catalyst do?

The Dragon’s Breath Catalyst gives the launcher a Trait called Pyromancer, which makes the weapon replenish fuel faster. This ties in with the Composite Repellant Trait, which ejects more fuel the longer the launcher goes without firing. The Catalyst also makes defeated enemies occasionally drop Firesprites.

Solar and Stasis are already shaping up to be incredibly powerful in Season of the Wish, so the Dragon’s Breath Catalyst may be worth your time.
