Lightyear Frontier is a relaxing farming sim in which players can take care of wild animals they encounter on their journey. This guide explains how to get food to feed animals in Lightyear Frontier.
Lightyear Frontier: Where to find food for animals
Players can make food for animals through the Fodder Oven construct. The Fodder Oven can be crafted from the Construct menu under the “Crafting” tab. It requires 20 Stones, six Wood, and two Plant Oils. Below, we explain how to obtain each of the required materials.
- Stone: Obtained by mining rocks on the ground.
- Wood: Obtained by chopping down trees.
- Plant Oil: Crafted at the Oil Presser with 5 Plant Fiber (found from trees).
Once you have the necessary materials, make the Fodder Oven and place it anywhere you like on your home base. When you first access the Fodder Oven, you’ll have two options: Basic Fodder and Nice Fodder. Depending on the animal you plan on feeding, one may want Basic Fodder or Nice Fodder (more on that later).
Here are the necessary ingredients for Basic Fodder and Nice Fodder:
- Basic Fodder: 1 Plant Oil, 1 Plant Fiber
- Nice Fodder: 1 Polyberry Oil, 1 Plant Fiber

How to feed animals in Lightyear Frontier
Feeding an animal is as easy as walking up to it on foot and selecting the option to do so. It’s important that you approach on foot and not in your mech, or else you will scare it away.
When you approach an animal, a notification will appear informing you which food it wants (Nice Fodder or Basic Fodder). If you have the correct food in your inventory, simply feed the animal by pressing the corresponding button that appears on the screen.
What happens when you feed animals in Lightyear Frontier?
Feeding animals is a great way to get additional resources in Lightyear Frontier. After a good feeding, animals can drop Stones, Fiber, and other additional resources.
I recommend feeding any animal you encounter whenever you have the chance. Since Lightyear Frontier is all about crafting, having ample resources is a great way to improve your base and upgrade your mech. Feeding an animal can result in a resource you couldn’t previously find, making it a helpful feature.
