You’ll soon begin to realize while playing Diablo 4 that there’s more than one currency. When trading with Purveyors of Curiosities, you’ll need to collect Murmuring Obols, which can earn you random types of gear. This gambling system can be addictive, until you realize you can’t hold unlimited Murmuring Obols. Not only can you spend Murmuring Obols on mystery gear items, but Whispering Keys as well. Sadly, at the beginning of the game, you can only hold 500 at once. How you can increase your Murmuring Obols capacity in Diablo 4 is done through the Alters of Lilith, or the Region Progress rewards.

First off, one way to increase your Murmuring Obols capacity is by discovering Alters of Lilith. All across Sanctuary, you can find and interact with these stone Alters of Lilith. Each one you activate will give you a small stat increase across all characters on your account. Not only that, but occasionally you’ll get a reward that will increase your Murmuring Obols capacity by five. It doesn’t sound like much, but if you find enough statues, your capacity will increase a lot more.

There’s one other way that can increase the amount of Murmuring Obols you can hold. This method gives you a much higher increase, but will take a lot longer to accomplish. While looking at your map, check your Region Progress. Earning Renown can be done by discovering Waypoints, clearing Strongholds, and more. Each of the five regions has five levels of Region Progress. On the fourth level, you’ll not only gain XP and Gold, but an increase in your Murmuring Obols capacity by 80.

Luckily, both these methods will increase your capacity across all your characters. Also, discovering Statues of Lilith contributes to gaining Renown, so it’s like hitting two birds with one stone. Once you gain a ton of Murmuring Obols, you can then spend a good amount of time with a Vendor trying to get high-rarity gear.
