Many have been turned to stone by the gaze of a Medusa in Dragon’s Dogma 2. But maybe you can be the one to turn a Medusa to stone thanks to the Daughter of the Evening Shield. It’ll be like one of those Legends.

The Daughter of the Evening Shield has a vague description that hints at its use of reflecting back the power of their foes. This will be the shield you need to reflect back Medusa’s gaze to petrify it.

This shield is stashed away in the depths of the Vernworth Vault, which is a pain to get into.

First things first, head over to the Vernworth Vault. Go into the audience chamber and take the second left into a channel. Pass through until the end. You can follow the markers I’ve placed to show where to go on the map below.

At the bottom of the tunnel you’ll be walking down is the vault – and also a guard that you will have a very hard time getting past. Upon even stepping foot near her, she’ll order you to leave, and you’ll be teleported back up the stairs.

There is no attacking her or getting past her, at least presumably without some guard armor of your own.

To get past this without the armor, you’ll have to get a little creative. Head back upstairs and walk into the Kitchen, where you’ll be able to grab a barrel. Haul it back downstairs and throw it at the guard. When she gives chase, pick her up, and place her in the kitchens.

This will clear the way and will unlock the Vernworth vault door.

In the vault are lots of Gold and valuable items, but most importantly, is the Daughter of the Evening Shield. Once you’ve got it, you’ve just got to find a Medusa to use it on.

How to petrify a Medusa in Dragon’s Dogma 2

To petrify a Medusa in Dragon’s Dogma 2, you’ll need to find one. There is only one place where a Medusa spawns and the road to get there is wrought with danger.

As you must be a Fighter to equip the Shield, I had to make the trip with a Vocation I had never played before. It was not fun but is possible as long as you keep running away.

The Medusa can be found in the Calignous Depths, a cave that it’s taken all for itself. Take the road south-west from Bakbattahl and you’ll cross a bridge between Battahl and theWyrmsblood Forest.

It may be wise to make your Pawns wait outside the cave, as the Medusa will target them often, and you won’t need any help if you’ve got the Daughter of the Evening Shield.

Medusa has a few attacks that it will use, so you may have to run around the arena before it decides to try and petrify you. You’ll know when it’s begun to petrify as its eyes will gleam red and a beam will launch from its eyes.

As soon as you see the red cone, raise your shield by defending and step in front of it. Don’t worry about the second of exposure you may face as you go to defend – it won’t hurt you. As soon as you land this, the Medusa will turn to stone.

The moment it does, it’ll be defeated, and you can hit it to send it crumbling.

With this trick, you can easily grind the Medusa for EXP and DCP. However, note that upon petrifying the Medusa, you won’t be able to loot it.

Go forth now Arisen, and take revenge on that Medusa as much as you wish for its attack at the beginning of the game. You may wish to take on the foul beast without such trickery, but for that, you’ll need to be the best fighter you can.
