How to prevent lava damage with a shield in LEGO Fortnite

Lava, begone.

Lava is scary in every game, but lava in LEGO Fortnite can be completely avoided and neutralized. To negate all lava damage in LEGO Fortnite, you need to use a shield.

LEGO Fortnite: How to negate lava damage with a shield

Reddit user SaddenedChicken figured out that if you raise a shield when entering lava, you don’t take damage. While lava doesn’t insta-kill you or deal that much damage, it’s good to know that you can take no damage from lava and still enjoy the benefits by equipping a shield and having it raised.

In the video, you can see that the shield’s durability takes a hit every time the player hits the lava. From that, we can accurately assume that while raising your shield does negate lava damage, it does lower your shield’s durability.

Notice too that the shield used in the video is a purple rarity. You can use white or green shields to perform this lava trick, but they’ll have less durability. You’ll see that you get the burning status effect while in lava, naturally, but don’t worry because you won’t take any direct damage. While your shield is raised, you’ll negate any damage the lava would do.

The benefit of lava is it bounces you around very quickly. With the raised shield trick, you can bounce around a Desert Cave with ease. Use this trick to avoid enemies chasing you or to explore the cave even further.

It’s important to note that this lava shield trick is most likely a bug. I think this is an unintended interaction from Epic Games, which means it could be removed in a future patch. However, if you’re nervous about getting around lava in Desert Caves in LEGO Fortnite, use a shield. Be sure to use the other known glitches in LEGO Fortnite before it’s too late.
